Not everyone is as nail-obsessed as I am. For many people, mother’s especially, day-to-day life is too chaotic to maintain a consistent nail care routine. If this sounds familiar, fear not! We have put together a list of 7 Easy Nail Care Tips for Busy Mom’s. Incorporate some, or all of these tips and avoid any nail catastrophes.

1. Keep your nails clean and dry

Bacteria and fungus thrive in dirty, damp environments. To avoid these little monsters, make sure to dry your nails thoroughly after washing your hands or showering.

Tip: Never share nail clippers with other people!

2. Use a good-quality nail file

Keep a gentle nail file in your purse or work bag to smooth out snags or jagged edges.Typically, you only need to file once a week. However, if your nails grow particularly fast or you notice excessive chipping- you may need to file more often. Make sure your filing correctly to avoid jagged, frayed nails or even cuticle damage. Start from one opposite corner to the center (slowly), and don’t file back and forth.

3. Moisturize your nails and cuticles

Frequent washing and exposure to chemicals can cause dryness and brittleness. Keep a small bottle of cuticle oil on hand to keep your nails hydrated and healthy.

Look for oil’s containing plant ingredients like jojoba oil, coconut oil and argan oil.

4. Trim and file your nails regularly

Prevent nails from breaking easily by trimming them every two weeks or as needed. Use a gentle nail clipper and avoid over-filing with a gentle nail file.

5. Avoid harsh chemicals

Protect your nails from harsh chemicals like cleaning products and non-toxic nail polish remover. Wear gloves when cleaning and opt for non-toxic, gentle nail polish remover.

Some specific chemicals to avoid are formaldehyde, toluene and dibutyl phthalate. These are known as the ”Toxic Trio” or ”Big 3”.
